About

The title:

The title of this blog comes from a poem about Jamaica by Lorna Goodison, entitled “To Us, All Flowers are Roses”. It’s from a 1992 collection of the same name. The specific quotation comes from the following stanza:

There is everywhere here.
There is Alps and Lapland and Berlin.
Armagh, Carrick Fergus, Malvern
Rhine and Calabar, Askenish
where freed slaves went to claim
what was left of the Africa within,
staging secret woodland ceremonies.

Me:

I’m presently the Monitoring and Evaluation person for Cuso International, Latin America and the Caribbean. I should mention that this blog in no way represents the views and opinions of Cuso International.

I was a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica where I finished the work on my book about Ethiopians and Rastafari–it’s out soon with NYU Press. You can check out my research interests here. I’m always up for a chat or even a tweet. Feel free to send me an email or ask me a question at thereiseverywherehere at gmail dot com
